(St Paul) – As midterm elections and the holiday season approaches, 100% Human Theatre is looking to help people ease some tension, find a little peace and a lot more humor with its new comedy, Human Error. Written by Eric Pfeffinger, Human Error is a 90 minute one-act that plunges you into the lives of two very different couples. Madelyn and Keenan are a latte-sipping, NPR-listening blue-state couple planning a pregnancy through IVF, until they learn the fertility doctor accidentally implanted their embryo into Heather, whose views (and her husband Jim’s) lean toward NASCAR, Cabela’s and the NRA. Can these two couples make it through nine months of gestation without killing each other?
The comedy playfully teases out the mistakes, misunderstandings and mechanisms we use when forced to step out of our echo chambers and acknowledge that there are other people who are not exactly like us.
The cast features Stephanie Cousins (Madelyn), Darius Dotch (Keenan), Katie Consamus (Heather), Matt Berdahl (Jim) and Michael Pearce Donley (Dr. Hoskins). The crew is Katy Humnick (Stage manager), Tegan Curran (Lighting design), Nate Farley(Set design), Michael Pearce Donley (Sound design), Kris Livingston (Costume design) and Joy Donley (Director).
100% Human Theatre’s mission is to help audiences go beyond the story of the show by providing add-on experiences that engage the audience further with the show’s theme. Last year’s production of The Tin Woman, about a heart transplant recipient, included connections with LifeSource that tied into director Joy Donley’s own life experience as a donor mom. “I want to find tangible ways to connect with what the show is saying,” Donley says, “so that audiences feel they are seen, and not just there to be entertained.”
The post-show add-ons for Human Error are free, last less than an hour and include Friday night hosted quiz games, Saturday matinee chair yoga and Saturday night mini-workshop and interactive talks with Braver Angels, an organization that unites red and blue Americans in a working alliance to depolarize America.
Performances are November 20-22, 27-29, December 3-5 at 7:30pm, and November 21, 28 & December 5 at 2:00pm at Art House North, 793 Armstrong Avenue West in St. Paul. Tickets are $30-$50 (with one Pay-As-You’re-Able preview on November 19 at 7:30pm) at www.100percenthumantheatre.com.
